The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for very heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir for the next two days.
Widespread rainfall is also forecast over Ladakh through the rest of the week.
Wind speeds may reach up to 80 kmph in some areas, the IMD said, raising the risk of uprooted trees and power outages.
The department has warned of possible traffic disruptions and waterlogging in low-lying localities as the rain continues.
Authorities in the hilly states have also been cautioned about the risk of landslides and sudden rises in river water levels due to the persistent rainfall.
