An Instagram video by Chrissy Varughese, an Italian woman who married into an Indian family, has gone viral after she shared three cultural experiences that stood out to her.
The first was around hospitality and food: she said her plate kept being refilled even after she said she was full, reflecting how guests are rarely left hungry in Indian households.
The second was kitchen etiquette. Unlike in Italy, where guests often help prepare meals, she found that Indian families insist visitors relax rather than assist with cooking or serving.
The third was directness: she noted that Indian families comment openly on appearance, clothing and makeup, which she initially mistook for displeasure before realising it reflected affection and closeness.
The video has drawn millions of views, with many commenters praising Indian family values and the idea that no guest goes hungry, while others noted that the directness she described comes from care rather than rudeness.
