Prime Focus Studios has signed Sony Pictures as the global distributor for its upcoming film Ramayana in territories outside India, in one of the biggest international distribution deals for an Indian film.
The mythological epic stars Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, and is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The film’s music is composed by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.
Following the announcement, the trailer launch for Ramayana was postponed. Prime Focus Studios founder Namit Malhotra described the Sony Pictures deal as a historic moment for the production.
Ramayana is set to release internationally in multiple languages, including a premium English-language version, positioning it for a scale of release typically reserved for major Hollywood productions.
Distribution within India will be handled separately by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
