BESCOM has announced a six-hour power shutdown in parts of Bengaluru on Wednesday, running from 11 am to 5 pm, for maintenance work under the Kattigenahalli substation.
The areas set to be affected include Uttar Gate 1, 2 and 3, the Embassy Office and Philips Company premises, Dwaraka Nagar, Baba Nagar, Kattigenahalli, Bagalur Cross, Bagalur Main Road, Manipal College and Vinayaka Nagar, along with the surrounding vicinity.
BESCOM said the outage is necessary to carry out urgent infrastructure maintenance and substation repairs, including replacing old wires and clearing branches near power lines.
The utility said the shutdown would also allow for transformer inspections aimed at reducing the risk of outages once monsoon rains intensify in the city.
Residents have been advised to fully charge laptops, mobile phones and power banks before 11 am, and to arrange emergency lighting in advance of the outage window.
BESCOM also asked residents to avoid using lifts or heavy motors during the shutdown period, and said power would be restored using staggered switching after 5 pm to prevent surge damage.
The maintenance work is being coordinated with the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited, which often plans joint outage windows with BESCOM to reduce the need for repeat shutdowns.
Residents in the affected areas can track restoration updates through the BESCOM Mithra mobile application or by calling the utility’s 1912 helpline.
BESCOM distributes power across eight Karnataka districts, including Bangalore Urban and Bangalore Rural, spanning more than 41,000 square kilometres and serving a population of over 2 crore across its metropolitan and rural zones.
BESCOM has said such scheduled shutdowns, though inconvenient in the short term, are aimed at reducing the risk of unplanned outages once the monsoon season brings heavier rain and wind to the city.
Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited is coordinating the maintenance work alongside BESCOM, reflecting how transmission and distribution utilities in the state often plan joint outage windows to minimise repeat disruptions.
