The ruling Jammu and Kashmir National Conference plans to gherao BJP headquarters in Srinagar and Jammu today, escalating tensions between the two parties.
The move comes hours after the BJP announced a protest march towards the Civil Secretariat against the NC-led J&K government, prompting the JKNC’s counter-action.
The JKNC’s demands include constitutional guarantees for Jammu and Kashmir, restoration of full statehood, clearance of the pending reservation file, and accountability from the Union Government over commitments made in Parliament and before the Supreme Court.
The Srinagar protest is scheduled for 10:00 am at Gindun Park near the Rajbagh police station, with a parallel demonstration planned in Jammu.
Security has been visibly tightened around BJP offices in both cities ahead of the planned gathering, with additional personnel deployed as both parties describe their actions as peaceful.
