Yamaha has opened pre-bookings for its upcoming R2 sports bike in India, ahead of the motorcycle’s official launch scheduled for August 27.
Bookings are open on Yamaha India’s website for a refundable amount of Rs 10,000, which will be adjusted against the final price if the customer proceeds with the purchase.
Customers who book the R2 ahead of launch are being offered priority delivery once the bike goes on sale.
The R2 is expected to slot in as a new entry point into Yamaha’s fully-faired performance motorcycle range, sitting alongside the existing R15 rather than replacing it.
The bike is expected to be powered by a 200cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine based on the R15 platform, with a 6-speed gearbox and VVA valve technology.
Yamaha has not officially confirmed final specifications or pricing, with full details expected to be revealed at the August 27 launch event.
The R2 is expected to get a 200cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine based on the R15 platform, paired with a 6-speed gearbox and VVA valve technology.
Hardware on the bike is expected to include a Deltabox frame, an inverted fork, a linked monoshock, 17-inch wheels, dual-channel ABS and switchable traction control.
Features are expected to include a TFT console with smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation and a ride-by-wire throttle system.
The R2 is expected to be manufactured in India, which could help Yamaha control costs and potentially allow the motorcycle to be exported from India to other markets.
The bike is expected to become Yamaha’s new entry point into its fully-faired performance motorcycle family, positioned alongside the existing R15 rather than replacing it.
With an expected price of around Rs 2.15 lakh ex-showroom, the R2 is positioned to undercut rivals like the KTM RC 200 while competing with bikes such as the Hero Karizma XMR and Bajaj Pulsar RS200.
